Been listening to everything that has happened to this guy. What I have detected is vanhu vanodherera munhu munyowani. My Advice is, if he wants to do it right, he should find a local guy whom he can pay to manage these things. Someone who can be accountable to him yet also putting necessary pressure to the workers on the ground. If he were to do that for example on the WELL project, the managing guy who is local who is not emotionally attached to the 'community' but working for money was going to makesure that the ones who will dig the well would do it according and as a manager he wasnt going to approve their payment if it wasnt done well. he would also be someone who is known to know how wells are dug so they would fear him. Im saying this because i remember one year farming tobacco very long time ago, during the time to make bales, the guys who were doingit for us were not doing it the right way, I said no but my father was an expert in the field so when he came, they corrected the issue right away. Unfortunately having a spirit of uplifting the community around you always lets you done. Our society is not what it used to be. The decay in society is just crazy and selfishness is at the centre of it all. The mindset of most Zimbabweans is as long as I'm better than my neighbour then I'm doing well. And when they scam you they tell people ndawana dhiri....NO sir, you're stealing is what you're doing. Call it what it is not calling it a dhiri. Hope this guy makes it, he has a good head on his shoulders

Dang, that's a setback but I hope he succeeds. As for why local people can't see beyond tomorrow, it has a lot to do with Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Spiral dynamics is also another way of looking at it to, but basically if you are in one frame of mind, its very hard to get out of that and see things differently until your needs on that level are met. He was expecting the people to be at the level where you honor contract and do things based on honor and taking them at their word, but that's impossible for someone who is on the lowest rung just looking for survival. I do agree with the advice from another commenter that the first goal should have just been to build a house for his family and to focus on growing to feed his family rather than to sell. Yes, that is hard work that they would have to put in themselves, but the advantage is that you get to know the land, and understand which parts are best for what. I'm from the US and that is my dream. Also as a software engineer who works fully remote, I can have a constant source of income while working part time on the homestead. If I were ever to move to a place like Zim having that constant stream of income with much living lower expenses would be really powerful. Anyways, I give him props for trying and I know he will succeed one day.

In Zimbabwe the first thing is having financial stability and a working source of income before going after your dreams. Market research and feasibility study is crucial and also don't step into any river with both feet and also trust no one especially family at least just have 1 or 2 friends that you can benefit from them be it financially or ideas
